CONTROL Resonant Hands-On and IGN First
What press builds actually showed before the 24 September 2026 launch.
CONTROL Resonant is still upcoming. Digital launch is 24 September 2026. This page is the press-build desk: IGN First in August, Summer Game Fest hands-ons in June, gamescom’s Altered State trailer, and the combat rules those sessions keep repeating. It is not a review score and not a spoiler script of the finished campaign.
Use it as a timeline, then dive into systems pages: combat for the no-parry loop, Metro Fault for the subway dungeon, Resonants for the Central Resonant magma fight, and Manhattan for zone structure. Dates and SKUs stay on release date and pre-order.
IGN First (August 2026)
IGN dedicated its August First to Resonant and shipped two exclusive gameplay packages:
- Metro Fault mission (about 13 minutes) — Fault dungeon, trains on every axis, Mold, Jesse’s voice, Reach as the grappling-hook reward, fast travel after. Walkthrough: Metro Fault.
- Central Resonant boss fight (about 11 minutes) — a giant fiery Pattern epicenter that turns floors to lava and spits magma. IGN notes that killing Resonants is how Dylan grows, and that the next drop would talk about how those kills can also make the world harder. Boss framing: Resonants.
IGN also published a hands-on combat feature that matches later Wccftech reporting: three Aberrant slots (standard, subweapon, finisher), two banks of three abilities, hover plus short double jump plus air dash, and a kit that feels like Doom 2016 threat priority mixed with floaty Control acrobatics and Devil May Cry launches.
Summer Game Fest / State of Play (June 2026)
June locked the date and opened pre-orders. Hands-on sessions of two to three hours put critics in Dylan’s boots from the Oldest House into Manhattan streets. Recurring notes:
- Melee is the sequel. The Service Weapon is gone.
- Zoe de Vera is the radio partner; several writers compared the texture to Firewatch-style check-ins, not a second avatar. Single-player only.
- A possessed bus, inverted interiors, and “infinite bedroom” style House leftovers show the city and the Bureau still share DNA.
- Build depth lives in The Gap: Talents, Artifacts with trade-offs, weapon trees. Builds.
The Paranatural Manhattan trailer (Emily Pope narrating as acting co-director) is indexed on trailers. Vilma Jää’s “Manalan mailla” is the needle-drop, not a gameplay system.
Gamescom Opening Night Live (August 2026)
The Altered State trailer is the last big cinematic before launch week. It is already embedded on the combat page. Community reaction also clocked a Casper Darling tease; treat that as a character-page problem, not a hidden trailer timestamp we will invent.
Comic-Con 2026 added a long-form cast conversation on Remedy’s channel. Useful for performance talk around Dylan and Jesse; not a substitute for a boss guide.
Combat rules the previews agree on
These claims now show up in enough independent write-ups to live on the wiki as preview-confirmed, not rumour:
- No block. No parry. Defense is dodge, dash, and positioning.
- Power (white ability bar) refills by hitting things with the Aberrant. Idle play starves the kit.
- Falter / stagger opens executions. Executions grant Dominance, a short damage window (some June pieces said “bloodlust” for healing-orb bias — later Wccftech uses Dominance for the damage buff. We will follow Remedy’s final UI string at launch).
- Six ability slots in two hot-swappable banks of three.
- One Resonant power per boss per playthrough, with NG+ unlocking extra combinations. Gamescom’s Mold pair was Score Burst / Growth (also reported as Spore Burst / Growth).
If two outlets disagree on a resource name, the combat page keeps both notes rather than picking a winner.
What previews still have not shown
Full collectible map. Final button legend. Post-launch patch one. A complete Darling mission. Mac’s exact later-2026 day. Those absences are why this is a preview roundup, not a review. Physical discs still arrive 15 October 2026; PS5 Digital Deluxe early access still starts 22 September 2026, 14:00 UTC.
How to use this page
Watch the embedded IGN hands-on for motion, then read Getting Started so the first hour has a plan. If you only care about the subway, skip straight to Metro Fault. If you only care about the magma giant, skip to Resonants. For storefronts, Official Links.
Remedy Entertainment develops and publishes on Northlight. Annapurna Pictures co-finances. Mikael Kasurinen directs. None of the press builds replace the 24 September ship.
