CONTROL Resonant How to Complete Metro Fault
Fault dungeon, flying trains, Mold packs, and the Reach grappling hook.
Metro Fault is the clearest published dungeon in CONTROL Resonant. IGN First’s August 2026 exclusive shows Dylan Faden dropping into a New York subway that no longer obeys gravity, then walking out with Reach — the sequel’s grappling-hook traversal gift. The campaign is still upcoming (digital launch 24 September 2026), so this page is a preview walkthrough: what the mission is, how to survive it, and how it plugs into the rest of warped Manhattan.
Pair it with traversal for Reach, Shift, and Gravity Anomalies, combat for Mold executions, and the Manhattan map for how Faults sit inside open-ended zones. Zoe de Vera warns Dylan on the radio before he goes in. She is not a second player; Resonant remains a single-player action RPG.
What a Fault is
Remedy informally calls these spaces dungeons. IGN describes Faults as several underground (or otherwise inverted) challenges scattered across this alternate New York. Completing one is how Dylan acquires a new traversal skill waiting at the end. Metro Fault’s prize is Reach. Other Faults exist; their rewards have not all been named in public footage, so do not treat this page as a full dungeon list.
The structure matches the rest of Resonant: an overworld of Manhattan zones, optional side activity, then a compressed paranatural gauntlet. After you finish, preview coverage notes you can activate fast travel to return — useful for collectibles and later New Game Plus routing. Traversal abilities themselves still do not carry into NG+; they stay story- and dungeon-gated. See builds for what does persist.
How the mission plays
Zoe’s briefing in the IGN footage is blunt: trains have been chasing people, and nobody has come back. The truth is weirder. Trains roam every axis — ceilings, walls, inverted rails — while the Mold from the 2019 game returns as fungal fighters in the tunnels. Dylan can reorient onto different surfaces (Shift literacy from the controls page) to stay off a train’s line, then drop back into melee.
A practical preview loop:
- Listen to Zoe, then commit. The Fault is optional in the sense that it is a dungeon, not the entire campaign, but Reach is too important to skip if you want vertical Manhattan.
- Treat trains as environmental bosses. Do not try to “tank” a subway car. Reorient, dash, hover, and wait for a gap. The traversal guide covers hover and double-dash; Metro Fault is where those verbs stop being toys.
- Split Mold packs. Light Aberrant strings delete fodder. Heavier Mold needs stagger then execute. Preview clips show the Aberrant glowing red — likely a Heat / fire overlay — while Dylan tags grounded and flying spores.
- Stay aggressive. CONTROL Resonant has no block and no parry. Power (the white ability bar) refills from melee hits. Hiding in a tunnel alcove starves your kit. See the updated combat loop: swing → Power → falter → execute → Dominance.
- Hear Jesse, do not freeze. Deeper in, Dylan hears Jesse Faden willing herself not to forget. It is a story beat, not a fail state. Keep moving toward the Reach pickup.
How to get Reach
Reach is CONTROL Resonant’s grappling hook analogue. IGN’s write-up is explicit: finish Metro Fault, claim the skill at the end, then use it to scale vertical surfaces and cross impossible gaps. Combined with Shift and Gravity Anomalies, it is how Dylan treats hanging buildings as floors. The Manhattan page explains why the city is rotated; this page is the unlock.
Do not confuse Reach with Shift. Shift reorients gravity on structures. Reach yanks you across a gap. Preview players who only Shift still get stuck on subway shafts that want a hook.
Combat notes unique to the tunnels
- Fodder Mold dies to Flurry / Slash strings. Save Crush / hammer-style Secondary charges for the ones that need breaking.
- Flying Mold is why aerial juggles exist. Meet them in the air; Heat Wave or fire-leaning abilities from Resonants help stagger.
- Trains ignore your Super. A full Power bar does not make you subway-proof. Space first, DPS second.
- Executions drop the usual economy. Finishers feed Dominance (short damage window) and keep the aggressive loop alive. There is still no multiplayer partner to revive you.
If your first Primary is Slice (axe, backstabs), this dungeon can feel awkward against airborne spores. Slash (scythe) or Flurry (blades) match the footage better. Rank forms on the Aberrant tier list.
Story crumbs without a spoiler dump
Metro Fault is one of the first public spaces where Dylan and Jesse’s voices occupy the same mission. Jesse is still missing as Director; Emily Pope is acting co-director on the FBC allies page. The subway also restates the Mold as a city-scale infection, not only an Oldest House leftover. New sections of the House still exist in the sequel — Faults are how the outside world gets the same “rules stopped applying” treatment.
After you leave
Turn on the Fault’s fast-travel node. Then go practice Reach on Manhattan rooftops before the next Resonant gate. If you are shopping instead of theorycrafting, jump to pre-order. Digital launch remains 24 September 2026; physical discs 15 October; Mac later in 2026. Remedy develops and publishes; Annapurna Pictures co-finances; Northlight is the engine.
This walkthrough will stay preview-honest until launch-day patches exist. If a train pattern or Mold elite is renamed, we will match Remedy’s final strings rather than inventing a loot table.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for launch week, pre-orders, and first-hour combat.
How do I unlock Reach in CONTROL Resonant?
Preview coverage says Reach waits at the end of the Metro Fault dungeon. Complete the subway gauntlet, then claim the grappling-hook traversal skill.
Is Metro Fault required?
It is a Fault dungeon, not the entire campaign, but Reach is the sequel's hook. Skipping it will starve traversal on vertical Manhattan.
What enemies are in Metro Fault?
Mold / fungal fighters plus environmental trains on every axis. Reorient with Shift, then stagger and execute heavier Mold.
Can I return after finishing?
IGN First notes you can activate fast travel to come back, which matters for collectibles and later New Game Plus routing.
